10 The Modern Branding Playbook Your message and personal brand must be put out into the real world and online with regularity. Make sure all of your profiles, images and videos are consistent with your current personal brand and what you are passionate about. A consistent message removes confusion in the marketplace. Make it easy for your audience to understand who you are, what you sell and why you are selling it. This will allow them to hire you, refer you, recommend you and talk about you. These activities also make it easier to find you when searching on Google, Bing, Yahoo or other search engines. They also boost your organic search engine optimization, which will generate leads and create opportunities. Make the commitment this year to be consistent with your marketing efforts. Create and post videos, write your own blogs, post on social media, attend events, send email newsletters and content and execute your marketing plan. The key is having a schedule and what I call a time budget. Identify how much time each week you can spend on marketing and getting your message out. With this time commitment/ budget, block off the exact time you will undertake specific tasks. Maintain a calendar with a schedule of important dates and do not to allow anything to interrupt the planned activities. If it is important to make a change to your calendar, immediately re-book the time. Marketing is like farming, you have to prepare the field, plant the seeds, provide fertilizer, keep the bugs away (competitors), water the fields, trim the plants and harvest the crops. It takes a long time and effort. However, if you never plant the seeds (market) or only plant a few there will never be a bountiful harvest. No harvest means no "farm" (no business). Examine what works in terms of marketing and make adjustments when results are not what you need or expect. Always test and try new approaches. Consistency in marketing is a foundation for building trust, a critical component to personal brand growth and long term business success. Be Consistent with Your Personal Marketing and Messages A consistent message removes confusion in the marketplace. Make it easy for your audience to understand who you are, what you sell and why you are selling it.
